Hurricane Mathew Emergency Wharf Repairs Naval Station Mayport

Location: Naval Station Mayport, Jacksonville, FL
Period of Performance: May 5, 2017 – September 29, 2017
Description of Work: UMX was recommended by NAVFAC for emergency repairs to NS Mayport. The project was to perform repairs caused by Hurricane Mathew due to the existing foam-filled fender attachments allowed the fenders to float above the seawalls, which caused the vessels moored at Mayport to come in direct contact with the sea wall causing extensive concrete damage to the wharfs and vessels. UMX was contracted to repair these and other issues under this contract.
UMX provided the following services for this project:
- Mobilization of heavy equipment and commercial diving spread
- Establish and prepare laydown yard
- Installation of 198 lower pad eyes
- Core drilling and epoxy of 792 total 1/14’’ x 14’’ anchors
- Installation of new jewelry 1-1/2’’ chain
- Adding additional lower pad eyes and hardware to 99 foam-filled fenders
- 180lf of concrete spall repairs to reconstruct the bull rail on the delta pier
- Installation of 64 upper pad eyes
- Installation of 396 80-ton Shackles
- Installation of four 4000lb Trelleborg ladders with 14 anchor locations each
- Rebuild existing gangway, which included welding of piano hinges and new handrails
